Under the Good News Jan Dhan Yojana, even if you do not have balance in your account, you will get the benefit of overdraft up to Rs 10,000. This benefit is like a short term loan.
Earlier this amount was Rs 5000. The government has now increased it to 10,000. The maximum age limit for overdraft facility on this account is 65 years. Your Jan Dhan account should be at least 6 months old to get the benefit of overdraft. If not, an overdraft of up to Rs 2,000 is available.
Project started in 2014
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the launch of Jan Dhan Yojana in his Independence Day speech in 2014. This scheme was launched on August 28 this year.
