Ration shops in Delhi have an e-POS (Electronic Point of Sale) system under which a beneficiary can collect food grains after thumb or iris authentication.



Ration card is a very important government document. Through this, food grains are available at subsidized rates. This card is issued by the state governments. The Delhi government has given a facility to the ration card holders.

Such ration card holders who are unable to go to the ration shop to get their share of ration due to medical reasons or due to old age can now nominate another person for the same. According to the existing rules, the ration card is given only after the biometric fingerprint at the ration shop.

This is because ration shops in Delhi have an e-POS (Electronic Point of Sale) system under which a beneficiary can collect food grains after thumb or iris authentication. But under this new system, people who are facing trouble in carrying their share of ration due to medical reasons or due to increasing age will get relief.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department of the government had issued an order in this regard on August 26. A senior department official said on condition of anonymity that those who cannot visit ration shops due to old age or disability can also nominate others to take monthly quota of subsidized food grains.


A household having members above 65 years and below 16 years who cannot go to the shop for biometric fingerprint. If all the members of the family are suffering from leprosy, are disabled, are bedridden due to illness, or are affected by other diseases and infirmities. Apart from these, those families whose every member has to face biometric authentication failure despite correct Aadhaar seeding.
