The Modi government has revised the rate of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for 1.5 crore central sector workers. This increase will be effective from October 1.
New Delhi. The Ministry of Labor and Employment has revised the rate of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for 1.5 crore central sector workers. The increase in VDA will be effective from October 1, which will result in an increase in the minimum wages of central sector employees and workers.
In a statement, the ministry said, “At a time when the country is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, in a major relief to various categories of workers engaged in various scheduled employments in the central sector, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has reduced the rate of VDA. notified and amended with effect from October 1, 2021.
The VDA is revised on the basis
of the Average Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for industrial workers. This price index is compiled by the Labor Bureau. The average CPI-IW for the months of January to June this year has been used for this revision in the VDA.
The increase in VDA will be effective from October 1, 2021,
Union Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav said in a statement that this will benefit about 1.5 crore workers engaged in various scheduled employment in the central sector across the country. These workers are engaged in construction, maintenance of roads, runways, building operation, cleanliness and sanitation, loading and unloading of goods etc. He said that this is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ and this increase will be effective from October 1, 2021.
