Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab next year. That is why Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is trying to dominate on every front. This increase will increase the heavy burden on the state exchequer.
The Punjab government has given a big gift to its employees. The state government has announced to increase the basic pay of its employees by a minimum of 15 percent and reinstate some allowances. This initiative of the state government will put a burden of Rs 1500 crore on its exchequer.
According to a government statement, “With this, the total average increase in salary-pension per employee of the state will be up to Rs 1.05 lakh annually.” Assembly elections are due in Punjab next year. That is why Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is trying to dominate on every front. Before Punjab, the government of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar had also increased the salary and pension of their employees.
The employees in Punjab were earlier getting Rs 79,250 per annum from July 1, 2021 on the acceptance of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. Now they will get more amount than that. This has benefited the employees of Rs 4,700 crore.
The burden of so many crores will increase on the state government’s treasury
This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. This will increase the salary of the employees over and above the basic pay of December 31, 2015. Employees of many departments are agitating against the state government over some recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. With the latest increment, the total annual burden of salary and pension increase on the state government’s exchequer will increase by Rs 42,673 crore.
Yogi government also increased salary
The government of Uttar Pradesh has also approved the proposal to give Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to 28 lakh government employees and pensioners of the state at an increased rate of 11 percent from July 1. After the proposal is approved by the Yogi government, the state employees will get 28 percent DA. Presently DA was being paid at the rate of 15 per cent. This decision of the Yogi government will benefit about 16 lakh state employees and 12 lakh pensioners of the state.
Bihar government has also given gifts to its employees
On August 15, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave a big gift to the employees of the state from the historic Gandhi Maidan. On the day of Independence Day, he had announced to give 28 percent dearness allowance to government servants in Bihar. CM Nitish Kumar has announced to give 28 percent dearness allowance to 4.5 lakh employees of Bihar from July 1, 2021.
There will be an increase of 11 percent in the basic salary of the government employees of Bihar. Earlier 17 percent dearness allowance was announced. Now 11 percent has been increased to 28 percent. This will put a financial burden of about two and a half thousand crores on the state exchequer.
