According to ESET report, this year 18 apps were identified as spylone on Google Play Store. These apps were meant to borrow money from people, but in reality they used them to spy on them. These apps collected large amounts of information from people’s phones, such as their contact details, location data and browsing history. This information was later used to blackmail people and extort money from them with high interest.

ESET researchers shared details of apps used by loan sharks to defraud users. Loan sharks are people who borrow money from people and then force them to return it with very high interest. They often use fraud and extortion. It is said that these apps target users living in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa.
