Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued notification GSR 879(E) regarding registration of Bharat Series (BH Series). According to the notification, to further enhance and improve the BH series, the ministry has proposed new rules. A new registration mark named ‘BH Series’ has been included in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 on August 26, 2021. Which has also been implemented from September 15, 2021. Under the BH series, the vehicle owner does not need to go from one state to another and re-register the vehicles when transferred there.
These changes happened in BH series
- Vehicles on which normal registration mark is present, those vehicles can also be converted into BH series registration mark.
- Necessary tax has to be paid for BH Series Registration Mark, so that they become eligible for BH Series Mark.
- It is proposed to amend its rule 48, so that people can get the facility to apply for BH series at their home or office.
- To improve the prevention of its misuse, working certificate will have to be given by private sector employees.
- Apart from the official ID card, government employees will now be able to get BH series registration mark on the basis of their service certificate as well.
- BH series registration mark vehicles can be sold by their owner to any other person eligible or ineligible for BH series mark.
BH series will make traveling easier
At present, application for BH number can be made only at the time of taking a new vehicle. For BH numbers higher tax has to be paid as compared to normal numbers. Whereas, the BH-series number was not available on buying an old vehicle. Gurmeet Singh Taneja, chairman of the Bus and Car Operators Confederation of India (CMVR), had told that lakhs of people will get relief from this decision. At present, during the journey, the vehicle is repeatedly stopped for checking after seeing the number plate of another state. This will not happen after BH number.
What would be the BH-series number?
Bharat Series (BH-Series) is the tag on your vehicle. The BH-series registration mark is in the format YY BH #### XX, with the first two numbers (YY) standing for the year of registration. This is followed by the BH code for the Bharat series (####), which is a four digit number. The last two letters are (XX). In this way, BH-series vehicles can be identified by this number plate installed in the vehicles.
How to get BH-number
As per the new rule regarding taking BH-number, the same person will get BH-series number on the old vehicle, who fulfills the terms and conditions of the application. For example, the person taking BH-number has been transferred in the job. BH-number can be transferred from one owner to another at the time of selling the vehicle, but he has to fulfill the conditions. The rule of BH-number will be applicable only on private vehicles. The BH-number rule will not work on commercial vehicles.
