Government on Air India: The Union Minister was reacting to media reports that Tata has emerged as the largest bidder for the acquisition of debt-ridden Air India. 

Dubai: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday that the government is yet to take any decision on Air India and the final winner for the airline’s acquisition will be selected through a due process. .

Talking to reporters in his press conference, Goyal said, “I am in Dubai since a day ago and I don’t think any such decision has been taken. There is no doubt that the bids were invited and are to be evaluated by the authorities within the stipulated time. There is a well laid out process for this work through which the final winner will be announced.

The name of Tata went fast

In fact, the Union Minister was reacting to media reports that it was said that Tata has emerged as the largest bidder for the acquisition of debt-ridden Air India. Tuhin Kant Pandey, Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management, which is responsible for privatization on behalf of the government, had said in a tweet that the Center has not yet approved any financial bid for Air India.

He wrote in the tweet, ‘Media reports approving financial bids by Government of India in case of Air India disinvestment are wrong. The media will be informed about the government’s decision.

When asked about the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he said that there are huge opportunities for Indian businessmen in the textile, gem and jewellery, pharma sectors as well as health sectors. Because there is tremendous potential in both the goods and service sectors.
