Government ready to protect elephants, issued new directive

Bhubaneswar, Jagran correspondent. The elephant-man conflict has risen to the top in Odisha. Every week, elephant deaths are being reported from somewhere. However, not only elephants are being hunted, but humans are also being hunted by elephants. The situation has become such that in the last 25 days more than 5 elephants have died in Odisha while 7 people have died. The state government has lost sleep due to the situation getting worse day by day. Over the years, multiple blueprints have been created to prevent elephant human conflict but have not gained much benefit. This is the reason that 85 people have died in elephant attacks with 93 elephants killed in the 2018-19 economic year.

Government keeps an eye on the speed laws of elephants

Keeping in mind the situation day by day, once again the government has decided to monitor the movement of elephants at the Trinamool level. A re-directive has been issued for this. According to this directive, the control room will be opened from the office of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Wildlife, to the range office. This control room will be open 24 hours and will work.

The elephant movement will be monitored according to each range. The Range Officer will remain under its responsibility. They will be given an official mobile number. Those who remain in the responsibility of the range, they will have this number. The mobile number will be widely distributed to the people in the range area. With the departmental website, steps will be taken in the direction that the number will reach people. Such steps are being taken to protect elephants and mankind.

Control room will be opened at division level

In the same way, at the division level also a control room will be opened under the leadership of ACF. He will be accompanied by a range officer, a deputy ranger, two foresters and three foresters guards. The control room number will be with all the staff of the division, range officer, nearby ranger officer, chairman of the Forest Protection Committee and other key members. A WhatsApp group will be formed at the division level. If there is any news related to elephants, the DFO has been asked to provide information immediately.

If the elephant is near the train line, power cable, national or state highway, attacking people, the division control room has been asked to inform the death or injury of the elephant as soon as the address is known. The control room will have contact with the DFO. If there is any important information, then you will have to liaise with the local RCCF and the main office for action. Like the division office, the circle office will also monitor the movement of elephants for 24 hours. RCCF has been given the responsibility of operating this control room. A control room will also be opened in PCCF Wildlife Office. DCF has been given the responsibility of this office.
