The government is going to take a big step towards controlling cyber crimes. The government has decided to blacklist those people who buy SIM cards in the name of others or send fraud messages.

Amid the increasing cases of cyber fraud in the country, the government is going to take a big step. The government has prepared to blacklist those people who buy SIM cards in the name of others or send fraud messages. They will be blacklisted as a threat to cyber security. Not only this, such people can also be banned from taking a new connection for 3 years. This can be a big step towards preventing cyber crime.

Government preparing to take action

According to a report by CNBC-Awaaz, the government’s telecom department has started making a blacklist. This list will include the names of people who buy SIM cards in the name of others or send fraud messages. The existing SIM cards of the people whose names appear in this blacklist will be blocked and they will not be able to buy any new SIM card for a period of 6 months to 3 years.

A notice will be issued and a reply will be sought

Before putting the name in the blacklist, the government will issue a notice to the concerned person and seek a reply. They will have 7 days to respond. At the same time, in view of the wider public interest, a person can be included in the blacklist even without giving a notice.

Steps being taken continuously to control cyber crime

The government is continuously taking steps to control cyber crime. A few days ago, telecom companies were instructed to run a caller-tune containing steps to prevent cyber crime to spread awareness. This campaign will run for 3 months. Apart from this, the government had told the Parliament that it has ‘blocked’ 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1,32,000 IMEI numbers till November 15, 2024 in an effort to control cyber crimes.
