The central government has announced to celebrate 25 June every year as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’. A notification was issued by the central government on Friday in which information has been given about this. It said, ‘Emergency was declared on 25 June 1975. After this, there was gross misuse of power by the government of that time and excesses and atrocities were committed on the people of India. Whereas, the people of India have strong faith in the Constitution of India and the strong democracy of India. Therefore, the Government of India has declared 25 June as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ to pay tribute to all those who faced and struggled against the gross misuse of power during the period of emergency. The people of India have recommitted not to support gross misuse of power in any way in future.’
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed this decision of the central government. He posted on X and said, ‘On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, showing her dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of Indian democracy by imposing emergency in the country. Lakhs of people were jailed without reason and the voice of the media was suppressed. The Government of India has decided to celebrate 25 June every year as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’. This day will commemorate the immense contribution of all those people who suffered the inhuman pain of the Emergency of 1975.’
Work to keep the immortal flame of freedom alive: Shah
Amit Shah further said in his post, ‘The purpose of this decision taken by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to honor the struggle of millions of people who struggled to revive democracy despite facing innumerable tortures and oppression of the dictatorial government. ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ will work to keep alive the eternal flame of protection of democracy and individual freedom within every Indian, so that no dictatorial mindset like that of the Congress can repeat it in the future.’
Congress attacks the decision of the Center
On the other hand, Congress has questioned this decision of the central government. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on X and said, ‘The non-biological Prime Minister is once again trying to make a headline full of hypocrisy. But before the decisive personal, political and moral defeat he received from the people of India on June 4, 2024 (which will be known in history as Modi Mukti Diwas), he had imposed an undeclared emergency for 10 years. This is the same non-biological Prime Minister who has systematically attacked the Constitution of India and its principles, values and institutions. This is the same non-biological Prime Minister whose ideological family rejected the Constitution of India in November 1949 on the grounds that it was not inspired by Manusmriti. This is the same non-biological Prime Minister for whom democracy means only the demo-chair.
