After the imposition of 5% GST on prepackaged products, the prices of other food items including flour, rice, porridge, maida, semolina, pulses (tur) and rajma have increased.
New Delhi. After the increase in the rates of Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the Central Government, the prices of most food items have jumped by more than 15 percent in the last 10 days. After the imposition of 5% GST on prepackaged products, the prices of other food items including flour, rice, porridge, maida, semolina, pulses (tur) and rajma have increased. Let us tell you that the price of non-branded flour has also seen an increase of 25 percent. If we talk about curd, buttermilk, there has been a jump of 7 percent in it. Now the goods are being sold by the shopkeepers to the customers at increased prices. Earlier a packet of 10 kg flour which used to be available for Rs 280, after the imposition of GST, now its price has gone up to Rs 295. Similarly, the rice which used to get Rs 60 per kg earlier, is now getting Rs 65 per kg.
Similarly, the prices of pulses have increased by Rs 5-7. The domestic budget has been spoiled by the imposition of GST on food items. People say that diesel, petrol and LPG gas cylinders are already facing the impact of inflation. Now 5 percent increase in GST will cause more trouble. Let us tell you that the prices of rice, flour, pulses, semolina etc. have increased in almost all places. At some places in the wholesale shops, the food packets already kept by the shopkeepers are being charged from the customers by adding 5% GST.
Food prices increased by up to 15%
Pooja Kaushik, who lives in Vaishali Sector-6, Ghaziabad, says, ‘I have come for shopping, but I do not feel like taking the flour open or packed? The shopkeeper is also demanding 5% GST on five kg loose packing rice, flour, maida, gram flour, semolina. The central government should not levy GST on loose packing of 5 kg of food items. This is affecting the household budget. The middle class families will have to face financial problems due to the imposition of GST. Here, the shopkeepers are telling that if you have to take a packet of 10 kg or 20 kg flour, then you will take the same price as written, even if you take loose goods, you will have to pay extra money. Otherwise you can go.
Let us tell you that from July 18, many new items have been brought under the purview of GST. As soon as GST is imposed on 24 food items, inflation has started hitting the people. Half kg, one kg goods sold in packing have to pay 5% GST, the price of non-branded food items has increased by 25 percent. Due to this, now the prices of many food items including flour, all types of rice, pulses, semolina, maida and porridge have increased.
