GST payers will soon get the facility of ‘faceless’ assessment, know how much time it will take

Faceless Scrutiny Assessment: Jagmal Singh, Vice President (Services), GST Network, said at an event of industry body FICCI here, ‘It may take some time for us to introduce ‘faceless’ assessment in GST.



GST News: It may take some time to start the scrutiny system for assessment of tax returns under Goods and Services Tax (GST) without the taxpayer and the officer coming face to face. A senior official of GST Network gave information about this. The Income Tax Department was the first to start the system of faceless assessment without the taxpayer and the tax officer coming face to face. Later the Customs Department adopted it.


It will take some more time to launch the facility

In ‘faceless’ assessment investigation, the tax officer and the taxpayer do not come face to face and there is no need for physical production of documents. “It may take some time for us to introduce ‘faceless’ assessment in GST,” Jagmal Singh, vice president (services), GST Network, said at an event of industry body FICCI here.

GST assessment is linked to a particular jurisdictional officer or entity. It may take some time to change this. To make it effective, some changes will also be required at the policy level. GST was implemented on July 1, 2017. It includes 17 local charges including excise duty, service tax, value added tax (VAT) and cess.
