Strategy To Face Challenge Of H-1B Visa Crisis: The US’s move to cut H-1B Visa to hire professionals from other countries has created a furore across the world. Yet Indian IT companies based in the US, which have the largest share in H-1B visas, are not worried about it. The biggest reason for this is that less than half of the professionals in the top 5 Indian IT companies are from outside the US. In such a situation, Indian companies do not have much dependence on hiring professionals from other countries. In case of a major crisis, Indian companies can transfer their work to workstations located in India.

TCS, Infosys together take 20 percent of H-1B visas

According to a Money Control report, TCS and Infosys accounted for 20 percent of the total H-1B visas approved in the US in 2024. Apart from this, companies like HCL, Tech Mahindra and Wipro are also big employers in the US, but they are not much dependent on foreign professionals in their core market of North America.

America’s largest software exporter TCS earns almost half of its revenue from North America. While more than half of the US workforce has been recruited locally there. TCS MD Krithivasan says that he is not worried about the trend of cutting H-1B visas, because over the years his company’s dependence on it is decreasing and America’s local level share in appointments is increasing.

Why is there a ruckus over the H-1B visa?

The H-1B visa gives companies the opportunity to hire foreign specialized professionals in fields such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the US. After Donald Trump took charge of the US, along with the announcement of promoting employment at the local level, there is uncertainty about the H-1B visa. Since his last term, Trump has shown a tough attitude against immigration.
