H-1B Visa Policy Change: With the return of Donald Trump to America, it is expected that many types of visa changes can be seen. Trump’s supporters have demanded the abolition of the H-1B visa program. In such a situation, it is also being said that the Trump government can make changes in this visa program.

Donald Trump on H-1B Visa: Donald Trump is going to take oath as the 47th President of America on January 20. Meanwhile, the tension of many Indian H-1B visa holders has increased. They feel that with Trump’s return, the immigration policy may become strict. American companies and immigration attorneys are advising H-1B visa holders to return to America before Donald Trump’s swearing-in. They fear that Trump may take some big decision on the very first day of his tenure.

Recently, the US Embassy said that Indians who have to renew their H-1B visa will no longer need to leave America. Earlier, Indian workers had to come to India from the US for visa renewal. Here they had to go to the embassy and renew their visa, only after which they could travel to the US. The renewal process program for H-1B visas can be started in the US itself this year, which will provide relief to millions of Indians.

Companies doing remote hiring

Reports from The Straits Times indicate that companies and legal representatives have advised many Indian H-1B visa holders to avoid international travel during Donald Trump’s swearing-in. Indians are the second largest expatriate community in the US after Mexican citizens. Amidst the H-1B visa controversy, many American companies have started remote hiring. This is being done to avoid uncertainties arising regarding visas.

Indians ahead in getting H-1B visa

The H-1B visa program was started in the US in 1990. Its purpose is to meet the shortage of people in the ‘Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths’ (STEM) field. In 2023, 2,78,148 people from India got H-1B visa or their visa was renewed. This is 72% of the total visas. Indians work in big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple through H-1B visa. At present, the increased uncertainty regarding visa has created an atmosphere of tension among them.
