Debate going on about H-1B visa

The debate about H-1B visa is going on in America. Newly elected President Donald Trump supporters are openly opposing it. At the same time, his close industrialist Elon Musk has supported the H-1B visa. Musk says that there are very few highly trained employees in America and if America has to continue progressing, then it is very important to bring skilled workers from abroad. Along with Musk, Indian-origin politician Vivek Ramaswami also supported the H-1B visa. It is worth noting that India is also among the countries that benefit the most through the H-1B visa.

H-1B visa is in the highest demand

The H-1B visa is one of the most sought-after non-immigrant visas, which allows American companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. Technology companies depend on this visa to hire thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China.

Most Indian H1B visa holders

India tops the list of H1B visa holders in the whole world. According to the US State Department, out of 3.2 lakh H-1B visa applications in 2022, 77 percent were received by Indians. In 2023 also, more than 72 percent of the 3.86 lakh visas were issued to Indian citizens. In 2024, 3.31 lakh student visas were issued. The US State Department says that the number of people coming from India has increased five times in the last four years.
