Whenever any incident happens to someone, his first task is to go to the police station and register an FIR.

But, there are some people who feel uncomfortable going to the police station. In such a situation, here we are telling what is the process for registering E-FIR online. Here we are going to tell the complete process of registering e-FIR in many states.

How to do online FIR?

FIR, also known as First Information Report, is the initial step to report a crime under Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. The person with whom the incident has happened can lodge a complaint at his nearest police station. He also has the option to do so online.

After the new law…

Step 1 – The complainant has to first inform the Delhi Police station where he wants to register the report. This information can be sent to the police through e-communication.

Step 2 – In the second step, upload the information about the incident, personal details and related documents.

Step 3 – After this, a copy of your FIR will be sent to the Investigation Officer (IO) for preliminary investigation. After this, it will be ascertained whether a preliminary investigation can be started to find out whether the case is made out or not, it will take a maximum of 14 days. But, the information sent through e-communication will be taken on record within three days and preliminary investigation will be started.

Step 4- If the investigating officer feels that immediate action should be initiated on the matter then this can be done.

Step 5- After this the SHO will review the FIR and hand it over to the IO. A copy of the FIR will also be given to the complainant.

Zero FIR: With the introduction of Zero FIR, any person can register an FIR in any police station, regardless of his area. This will eliminate the delay in initiating legal proceedings and ensure immediate reporting of crime.

Delhi E-FIR Process

– First of all go to the official site of Delhi Police.

– After this, select ‘Lost & Found’ on the homepage.

– Now tap on Lost Report and then Lost Article Report.

– Here you will get two options Retrieve and Register. Click on the second option.

– Fill the required information here.

  • Name of the complaint
  • Parents’ name
  • Address
  • Mobile number
  • Email ID
  • Place, date and time of the incident
  • Brief information about the incident

-Enter the given code and review your details.

– Submit.

– A copy of the e-FIR will be sent to your mail.

Uttar Pradesh E-FIR Process

– Visit the official website of UP Police.

-Go to the Citizen Services section and select the e-FIR option to access the CCTNS webpage.

– Register for FIR or log in with your credentials.

– Complete the CCTNS portal registration to get your user ID and password.

– Log in and submit the required information for FIR.

– The online FIR verification process will start and authorized FIR details will be sent via email or SMS.

– Download the PDF copy of the FIR from your email.

Mumbai E-FIR Process

– Visit the official website of Mumbai Police.

– Fill the complaint form with your information, including.

  • Name of the police station
  • Subject
  • Type of complaint

-Personal details

-Email ID (to receive OTP)

– After filling the form, click on ‘Submit’.

– Note down your complaint number/FIR number.

Kolkata E-FIR Process

– Visit the official website of Kolkata Police.

– Go to the Report a Crime menu.

– Enter the required information, such as

  • Crime details
  • Address
  • Police station
  • Email

– Click on ‘Send’ to register your complaint.

– You will receive a confirmation email.

Chennai E-FIR Process

  • Visit the official website of Tamil Nadu Police Station.
  • Select ‘Information’ or Report for Police Complaint to register an FIR from the online service box.
  • Register your FIR or report as per the instructions given.

Technology plays an important role in new laws

Technology has been given place in the laws implemented across the country from July 1. Now the general public will have ease in many things including filing FIR online.

Preference to digital records: After the introduction of new laws, it will be easy to save documents. The government argues that by doing this, people will be free from the hassle of papers. That is, they will not be required to keep a hard copy to keep a record of anything. In the new laws, preference has been given to electronic or digital records, e-mail, server logs, computers, smart phones, laptops, SMS, websites.

Video conferencing and videography: Now the entire process from chargesheet to judgment has been simplified and the focus has been on making it digital. Along with digitizing the legal system with the new rules, other things have also been improved. That is, now only the accused can be presented through video conferencing, but now the entire trial, including cross-questioning, will be done through video conferencing. Now appellate proceedings can also be done digitally.
