India’s first hydrogen train will run on the tracks today on Monday, March 31. Its trial run will start on the Jind-Sonipat route. This train is capable of running at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour.

The country’s first hydrogen train will run on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana today. This environmentally friendly train has been manufactured by Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF). Its trial is starting today on this 89-kilometer route. This train is capable of running at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour. Apart from the passenger coach, this train will also have two coaches for hydrogen cylinders.

Capable of carrying 2,638 passengers at a time

This train with a capacity of 1200 horsepower will be able to carry 2,638 passengers at a time. The Railway Ministry had allocated Rs 2,800 crore for the construction of hydrogen fuel cell-based trains, under which 35 such trains are being prepared. This 8 coach train, running at a speed of 110 kmph, will be among the longest hydrogen trains in the world. This initiative based on green technology will play an important role in reducing carbon emissions and moving towards the zero carbon target.

Plan to bring it into regular operation after successful trial

During the trial, the technical capability and safety standards of the train will be evaluated. After successful testing, it is planned to bring it into regular operation. This train, manufactured by Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory (ICF), is an important step of Indian Railways towards promoting clean and sustainable transport. The aim of the Railways is to give a new identity to the heritage routes of the country while promoting clean and sustainable transport.

Railways preparing to run hydrogen trains on hilly routes

Indian Railways is preparing to operate 35 hydrogen trains on heritage and hilly routes under its special project ‘Hydrogen for Heritage’. Rs 2800 crore has been allocated in the current year’s budget for this ambitious scheme. Additionally, Rs 600 crore has been set aside for the development of hydrogen-related infrastructure on the heritage route.
