With the onset of monsoon, changes are being seen in the weather update. According to the IMD Alert, due to the changing weather, drizzle has started in many areas.
Apart from this, an alert of heavy rain has been issued in the southern and eastern states. Flood situation has arisen in many states. The onset of monsoon can be seen in many districts of the state including the capital Delhi.
Apart from this, rain has been predicted in many districts of Punjab Haryana Chhattisgarh Madhya Pradesh Rajasthan Gujarat. Apart from this, the possibility of lightning and rain has been expressed in many states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Leh Ladakh, including mountainous states .
The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more areas of the state on Saturday. Due to which rains lashed the state capital and several other districts in the north and eastern parts of Bihar. Due to which the residents got a big relief from the hot and humid weather. Patna received 9.3 mm of rain between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Saturday.
However, meteorologists claimed that Monsoon has not yet covered more than half of Bihar, except in some central and south-west districts, which are likely to cover in the next 48 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a fresh warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in North Bengal. This raised fears of landslides and rise in river levels, even as officials in Sikkim urged tourists not to visit some of the popular tourist destinations in the Himalayan state.
Officials said a few hundred visitors stranded in places like Lachen and Lachung in North Sikkim were rescued and shifted to safer places. All the tourists stranded in areas like Lachen and Lachung have been taken back to Gangtok. However, heavy landslides have occurred in Jongo, Chungthang, Lachen, Lachung and Dikchu. Due to which severe road condition has arisen in the upper reaches of the state. Compared to 2020 and 2021, Gangtok had the highest amount of rain recorded between June 1 and June 16 this year.
The capital of Sikkim received 632.5 mm of rain during the same period this year, compared to 232.1 mm and 486.6 mm in 2020 and 2021. The districts of North Bengal have also received heavy rains for the last few days. Some areas of Alipirduar district, such as Buxduar and Hasimara, received around 350 mm and 230 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The total rainfall was more than 50 mm at some places.
According to the IMD Alert, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some districts of Sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal like Darjeeling and Kalimpong. As per the advisory of the IMD, there may be landslides in the hills and the water level in rivers like Teesta, Jaldhaka, Sankosh and Torsa may rise even more.
Incessant rain continues over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa . Apart from this, an alert of drizzle has also been issued in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal. The sky is cloudy over Punjab Haryana including the hilly states. Soon there will be a change in the weather here too.
Darjeeling District Magistrate S Poonambalam said no major damage was reported due to the torrential rains till Saturday afternoon. The water level of several rivers, including the Torsa and Kaljani, have risen and some low-lying areas in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts have been inundated.
On Saturday, the southwest monsoon moved southwards, affecting districts like Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah and East Midnapore. According to GK Das, scientist at IMD’s regional office in Kolkata, the monsoon is expected to cover the remaining areas of West Bengal in the next two to three days.
