IMD Alert has issued a heatwave alert in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat including the capital Delhi till May 2. Apart from this, it will be cloudy on May 3 and 4.
Maximum temperatures continue to rise over most parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast severe heatwave in 14 states and union territories (UTs) till May 2. These include the northern regions of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana . There is a relief from the heat in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Leh-Ladakh . A rain alert has been issued in Shimla for a few days. Where the minimum temperature is expected to be 19 degrees and the maximum temperature is 29 degrees.
Here in Uttarakhand , the minimum temperature was expected to be 21 degrees while the maximum temperature was expected to be up to 35 degrees Celsius. Severe heat will continue in Jaipur, Rajasthan , a heatwave alert has been issued in many parts. The minimum temperature is expected to go up to 26 and maximum temperature to 43 degree Celsius.
The mercury in Delhi is likely to cross 43 degrees on Thursday and touch 44 degrees Celsius on Friday. The maximum temperature in the national capital at Delhi’s base station Safdarjung Observatory on Wednesday went two-three degrees above normal, from 40.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. According to the IMD bulletin, Delhi and its neighboring regions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh will receive scattered dust storm/thundershowers on April 29. Similar weather alert has been issued for Rajasthan on 29 and 30 April.
Temperatures rose above 45 degrees Celsius in several cities and towns of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, UP and Maharashtra on Friday , even as the Meteorological Department warned of another heat wave till May 2. Heat wave conditions are increasing or have started in other parts of the country as well. West Bengal ‘s Bankura district on Wednesday recorded a maximum temperature of 43.7 degrees Celsius in the eastern state, 43.3 degrees in Asansol, 42.8 degrees in Purulia and 42.5 degrees in Jhargram. According to news agency PTI, Kolkata recorded a relatively low maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Bhopal today is 25 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be 43 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Gujarat will be 27 degrees while the maximum temperature will be up to 43 degrees Celsius. Heat wave alert has been issued, people have been advised to stay at home.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar will be 12 degrees while the maximum temperature will be 26 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad is 27 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature may remain up to 45 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in the capital Jaipur is expected to be 26 degree Celsius and the maximum temperature is 42 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in Mumbai while the maximum temperature has been predicted to remain up to 36 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Lucknow can drop to 24 degrees, maximum 44 degrees , in Ghaziabad , the minimum temperature is 26 degrees and the maximum can drop to 42 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Jammu ranges from 23 degrees to a maximum of 38 degrees, while the minimum temperature in Leh is expected to be 3 degrees and the maximum is 19 degrees Celsius. In the capital Patna , where the minimum temperature is 26 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature is expected to remain up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Since March, extreme heat has knocked in North West and Central India, due to drought and extreme hot conditions, there are reports of drying up of wheat crop in the fields at many places. The heat wave is likely to subside over East India by May 1 and over Northwest and Central India by May 2. April this year is likely to be one of the hottest on record, though we’ll get confirmation only when the data comes in.
The IMD data provides a glimpse of the warming conditions over North and Central India. In Punjab , the maximum temperature across the state averaged 5.4 degrees above normal. In Haryana it was 5.1 degrees above normal. The day temperature has increased by an average of 1.7 degrees in both the states since Wednesday. By the second fortnight of May, the temperatures are generally at their peak in both the states.
One of the main reasons for the drop in day temperature in these areas was the lack of rainfall. The IMD chief said Western Disturbances, which generally bring moisture and thunderstorm activity over the northern plains. A Western Disturbance has not affected the region since February end. Changes in weather have been observed across central India in an event in mid-April.
The weatherman has forecast heatwave conditions at isolated places over northern parts of Telangana over the next three days. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are very likely at isolated places in some districts. According to the IMD , heatwave conditions are very likely to persist at isolated places over Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagityal and Rajanna Sircilla districts from Friday to Sunday, while Nizamabad district may experience heatwave on Saturday.
Heavy rains lashed western and central parts of Hyderabad on Thursday, giving some respite to the people from the heat. Rain is reported in Jubilee Hills, Kompally, Jeedimetla, Banjara Hills, Attapur Mallepally and Tolichowki. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, while Adilabad district recorded 44 degrees Celsius in the state. Partly cloudy sky is forecast for Hyderabad on Friday and Saturday, with light rain or thundershowers likely in some areas till evening or night.
The IMD said the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 41 degrees and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively. Around the Paradise area, a total of 21 feeders were affected due to rain and wind after sparks occurred on the 11kV high tension line. The feeders were switched off for varying periods, leading to power cuts. There was no electricity in Padmaravnagar for four hours till 9.30 pm.
Besides, there were short power cuts for half an hour in some parts of Medchal, Kandalkoya, Kukatpally, Cybercity circle, Mehdipatnam and Banjara Hills. According to the traffic police, there was no incident of traffic jam in the city due to rain. However , the spell of rain will continue in Uttarakhand, Himachal . With the rain and cloud cover starting from today, the weather and life will become normal, the possibility of heavy rain has been expressed in the areas. Apart from this, rain is also being seen over East India. which is likely to continue. According to the IMD Alert, an alert has been issued for heavy rain and drizzle at some places in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland .

- The heat wave will run till April 29 in Bihar and between April 29 and 30 in Chhattisgarh.
On 30 April, 1 May, heat wave will prevail in the northern parts of Gujarat. - Heat wave conditions will prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi between April 29 and May 1.
