IMD Alert/Weather Update Today: The weather is changing across the country in the second week of October. At some places the effect of heavy rain is being seen and at some places the cold has started knocking as soon as the monsoon has departed. Meanwhile, a new western disturbance is going to become active in the Bay of Bengal, which may affect the weather of many states. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that there may be light to moderate rain in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya in the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of snowfall in the hilly areas.

Alert of heavy rain in these states till October 12

  • According to IMD, very heavy rainfall activities may be seen in parts of North Eastern India.
  • There is a possibility of light to heavy rain with thunder and lightning at some places in Tamil Nadu during 9 to 11 October and heavy rain in Karnataka and Kerala on 10 October.
  • Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.
  • Light to moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala from today to October 12. A storm may also occur during this period.
  • Today, heavy rain is expected over Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka on October 9 and 10, Kerala on October 10 and 11. The cyclone is likely to strike Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe on October 10.
  • There may also be heavy rain in West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala. Whereas there is a possibility of heavy rain in Mahe, Puducherry and Karaikal.

According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, light to moderate rain may occur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during the next 24 hours. There are also chances of rain in Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar. There may be some good rain in the southern parts of the country including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and some parts of South Interior Karnataka. Today, thundershowers are expected at various places over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Monsoon’s farewell sequence continues

According to IMD, the withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon is passing through Lucknow, Satna, Nagpur, Parbhani, Pune and Alibaug, remaining parts of East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh during the next 48 hours. Southwest Monsoon is expected to withdraw from parts of Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha as well as more parts of Maharashtra. During the next two to three days, it is expected to withdraw from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra. , South West Monsoon will completely depart.
