IMD Alert: Monsoon will be normal in 2022, heavy rain alert in 16 states till April 21, heatwave warning in 7

The next decade i.e. 2021-30 is expected to approach neutral and the Southwest Monsoon will enter a humid era from 2031-40s.


Changes in the weather update of the country have started. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh including capital Delhi and mountainous areas are witnessing a drop in temperature along with cloud cover. At the same time, IMD Alert continues to wreak havoc in North East India. A warning has also been issued in many areas including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, while rain can be seen in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest bulletin has warned of rain and thunderstorm along with heat wave in many states of India. The detailed report is given below;

The capital Delhi (Delhi weather) will see changes in the weather. After the drop in temperature, light clouds can be seen in the sky. The rainy season will start in the mountainous areas. Due to the western disturbance hitting the mountainous areas, the effect of Western Disturbance will be seen in the northwest state.

If the IMD alert is to be believed, then the heat wave will continue in the capital Lucknow . The sky will remain clear, there will be strong sunshine, people have been advised to avoid heatwave. In the capital Delhi , where the minimum temperature is expected to be 25 degrees and the maximum temperature is 37 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded is 22 degrees while the maximum temperature can be recorded up to 40 degrees Celsius. Apart from this , the havoc of heat will also be seen in the capital Patna .

In the capital Patna , the minimum temperature is 25 while the maximum temperature is 40 degree Celsius, while in many other areas including Ranchi, alerts of hitwave have also been issued in Jharkhand. In Madhya Pradesh also the minimum temperature can be 22 degrees while the maximum temperature can remain up to 40 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms will continue over some areas in Rajasthan . However, drizzle can be seen in some areas. A rain warning has been issued in some areas of Madhya Pradesh including Chhattisgarh .

Normal monsoon this year

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday introduced a new benchmark figure based on data from 1971-2020. In which the country saw a slight decline in the monsoon rains over a long period and in the overall annual rainfall. Relatively higher decline was observed in some parts including Northeast India. Which can be attributed to climate change.

The IMD says that the monsoon is likely to be normal for the fourth year, but agriculture will not be affected due to deficient rains in some areas. Presently the Southwest Monsoon is passing through a dry era which started in the 1971-80s. The decadal average of all-India SW monsoon rainfall for the decade 2011-20 is -3.8% (minus 3.8%) over the long period. The next decade i.e. 2021-30 is expected to approach neutral and the Southwest Monsoon will enter a humid era from 2031-40s.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the northern districts of the state are likely to receive heavy rains this time, meanwhile, the central and southern districts will also see moderate to moderate rains. Last year, Kerala was 16 percent less in the monsoon season It had rained. It is expected that a weather pattern La Nia which occurs in the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and influences the monsoon is likely to be negative this year. Hence, the IMD has predicted a normal monsoon season in the country.

Heatwave warning

IMD Alert has warned of severe heat wave conditions in isolated areas of Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan from April 15 to 18. The states of Bihar and Jharkhand are also likely to experience heatwave conditions on April 16 and 21. Heat wave conditions will prevail in West Uttar Pradesh on April 16 and 18. The western regions of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan will also see heatwave conditions from April 15 to April 17.

Rain warning

A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from April 19. Under its influence, light to moderate isolated/scattered rainfall is very likely over Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of North West India during 19-21 April 2022. Rest parts of the country are likely to witness dry weather.

Due to the influence of southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the lower troposphere level, thundershowers and thundershowers will continue for the next five days over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, northern provinces of Sikkim including Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya. Widespread rain with lightning is forecast.

Heat wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch . Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/strong winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya and Telangana and over Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Rayalaseema, Kerala Lightning likely to occur- Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Mahe, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

Thunderstorm and lightning likely over Kerala-Mahe and Lakshadweep. Rainfall is also expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next five days. Heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura . Heat wave conditions are very likely in some parts of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab with isolated heat wave conditions. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/strong winds (30-40 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Odisha & Telangana and lightning very likely over Jharkhand & Kerala Mahe.

Orange alert in Kerala

According to the IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rains due to the impact of the cyclone that started off the southern coast of Tamil Nadu. The department has warned that summer showers will be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong thunderstorms, which can be dangerous and the public should be especially vigilant, especially in places prone to floods and landslides. When the weather is accompanied by strong thunderstorms and heavy rain, an orange alert is issued.
