Visibility remained low in the morning due to dense fog at many places. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of getting relief from the cold in the coming three days. At present, the effect of cold day is still visible. There are chances of rain in many districts of the state on January 8 and 9, which is likely to increase the cold.

Reason for increasing Cold
Meteorological Department officials said that from Punjab to eastern Uttar Pradesh, there is a blanket of fog at a height of 150 meters from the ground. The cold wave has increased due to the formation of a storm of cold winds over the snowy mountains. The effect of these winds is visible in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand. Due to this, these winds are affecting the plains.
Effect of dense fog in Punjab, Haryana
The effect of dense fog is being seen in Punjab and Haryana. Due to this, visibility was zero at many places. There is bone-chilling cold in Amritsar, Punjab. The minimum temperature recorded here was 5.8 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot and Gurdaspur also had a cold night and the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.2 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog was seen in the capital Chandigarh on Sunday morning and the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.6 degrees Celsius. Moreover, Bhiwani was the coldest place in Haryana with a minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius.
Chances of rain in UP
Due to cold in many cities of Uttar Pradesh, people were seen hiding in their homes on Sunday. Life here is being affected due to low temperature. There was no sunlight during the day due to fog in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The effect of cold winds was also seen. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of rain in many districts of UP from Monday. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of hailstorm.
Cold wave in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
The period of cold and fog that started in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on New Year is about to stop. During the last 24 hours, the entire state was in the grip of cold and cold wave. According to the Meteorological Department, Shivpuri was the coldest in Madhya Pradesh, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that a western disturbance has been forming since January 8, due to which there is no respite from rain and cold for the next three days. There is a possibility of cloudy sky and light drizzle in Bhopal in the next 24 hours.
Cold wave situation persists in some parts of Rajasthan. The minimum temperature recorded in Alwar on Sunday morning was 3.8 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest place in the state. Due to active Western Disturbance in the state, there was light rain at isolated places in the districts of Udaipur and Kota divisions on Sunday. Hail is also expected at some places on Monday and Tuesday.
Coldest night of this season in Srinagar
Saturday night was the coldest night of this season so far in Srinagar city. Along with this, the bone-chilling cold wave continues throughout Kashmir. According to officials, the mercury dropped to more than minus five degrees in Kashmir. The Meteorological Department said that due to the severe cold wave continuing in the area, a thin layer of ice formed on the surface of Dal Lake and other reservoirs of Kashmir.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 5.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, which was also below minus 5.4 degrees Celsius on Friday night. The Meteorological Department said that the plains are expected to be generally cloudy. There are chances of very light snowfall in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir on January 9. The weather will be bad here from 10 to 14 January.
40 to 50 thousand migratory birds reached Punjab
So far, about 40 to 50 thousand migratory birds have reached the Harike wetland of Punjab. Due to delay in the onset of winter season, these migratory birds have come here late this time. Harike Wetland is known as the largest wetland of North India, spread over 86 square kilometers in Tarn Taran, Firozpur and Kapurthala districts of Punjab.
About 90 species of migratory birds from different countries including Siberia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Russia and other parts of the world reach Harikay wetlands every winter as the reservoirs at their native places freeze due to drop in temperature.
