Meteorological Department Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning of rain in 15 districts of the state today. As per IMD forecast, a new Low Pressure Area is very likely to form over the Gulf of Martban and adjoining Myanmar today. Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over the same area during next 24 hours. Apart from this, alert has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Raigad, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.
Here IMD’s warning of heavy rain will continue on Friday as well. Also , Yellow Alert will continue in Ernakulam , Thrissur and Malappuram , Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha. Coastal warnings for the state will remain in force till May. There is a warning of heavy rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kozhikode on Saturday.
Strong weather is very likely to occur along and off Kerala coast, South TN coast, Gulf of Mannar and Comorin region. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. The IMD said that the intensity of rain will reduce significantly over the south peninsular region from May 21. As heavy rains continued on Thursday, Kerala received over 369% rainfall, including Ernakulam (885%) and Thrissur (450%) 24 were at the top of the hourly rainfall charts.
