IMD issued alert: Talking about today’s weather, according to Skymet Weather report, there may be light to moderate rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep along with heavy rain at some places. During the next few days, there may be sporadic rain or snowfall in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for many parts of the country for the next few days. The cold has increased in the national capital Delhi and surrounding areas, where Sunday was the coldest morning of the season. The maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR was 23.4 degrees Celsius, which is one degree less than the season’s average. According to IMD, there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall at some places in the country. In the coming days, there is a possibility of thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds at different places in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Meanwhile, a fresh, weak western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Monday.
Due to this, there may be sporadic rain or snowfall in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next few days. IMD has also issued a hailstorm warning for isolated places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from December 12. There may be damage to crops and property in areas affected by hailstorm. Apart from this, dense fog is likely to occur in isolated parts of North Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Assam and Meghalaya in the morning.
Fog may reduce visibility and affect road, rail and air traffic in these areas. The IMD has also predicted a gradual decline in minimum temperatures by about 2-3 degrees Celsius over central and eastern India during the next 2 days and no significant change thereafter. No significant change is expected in the minimum temperature in the rest of the country during the next 4 to 5 days.
More than half of the Northeast Monsoon has passed. There is still 15% rain deficiency in the South Peninsula. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka are in the category of low rainfall. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Lakshadweep are in the normal rainfall category. Along with Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also in the category of high rainfall.
