IMD Weather Update Today 17 November 2023: Most of the states of the country are currently in the grip of cold, while the states of North India have started experiencing severe cold, the states of South India are getting drenched with rain, the India Meteorological Department has just announced 19 Warning of heavy rain has been issued in many states till November 20.
Deep pressure likely to turn into cyclonic storm
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm by Friday. However, the deep depression will not have any major impact on Odisha as it will move towards the Bangladesh coast, the weather office said. In view of this, IMD has issued rain warning for many states including Odisha, West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The system is expected to move towards Bangladesh coast.
According to the Meteorological Department, a fresh easterly wave is expected to move across the region, resulting in heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala on November 19-20. The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm. The Meteorological Department said that this system is expected to move towards the Bangladesh coast. On Thursday, the deep depression was moving in north-northeast direction at a speed of 20 km per hour. The system is likely to move north-northeastwards, intensify further into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours and cross the Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara early Saturday.
IMD warns of rain in these states
IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places in the coastal districts of West Bengal with heavy rainfall at some places on November 17. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over the coastal districts of North Odisha. Light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from November 16-18. Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Mizoram and Tripura, especially on November 17.
Light to moderate rain expected here till November 20
Apart from this, light to moderate rainfall at many places and heavy rainfall at some places is expected on November 18 in South Assam and East Meghalaya. Light to moderate rain at isolated places is also likely over Tamil Nadu on 17, 19 and 20 November and similar weather conditions are expected over Kerala on 20 November.
