IMD Rainfall Alert: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several alerts regarding heavy rainfall, dense fog and cold wave conditions in different parts of India. Delhi and its adjoining areas are expected to experience mixed weather including rain and fog at different places. On January 26, cold wave and dense fog prevailed in Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius.
IMD Rainfall Alert: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several alerts regarding heavy rainfall, dense fog and cold wave conditions in different parts of India. Delhi and its adjoining areas are expected to experience mixed weather including rain and fog at different places.
On January 26, cold wave and dense fog prevailed in Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 17.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature of the city is likely to hover around 7 degrees Celsius and an orange alert has been issued for dense fog in the region.
AQI ‘very poor’ in Delhi
Air quality still remains a cause of concern, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) ranging from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’. The Anand Vihar station recorded an AQI of 374 on January 26, indicating high pollution levels.
A fresh western disturbance is expected to bring scattered rain and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from the night of January 29, with the conditions expected to continue till February 1.
Rain likely in these states including Punjab Haryana
Moreover, rain, thundershowers and lightning are likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh from January 30 to February 1. Temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius over northwest and central India over the next two days, followed by a gradual rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius towards the end of the week.
Dense fog is expected to affect visibility in isolated areas of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan on January 26. Dense to very dense fog is likely in many areas of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, while similar conditions are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Jammu residents advised to take precautions
In Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmir Valley will remain mostly cloudy with dry weather till February 1, except for light snowfall in higher reaches from January 30. The region is currently in the midst of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the harshest winter period that will last till January 31. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions during this fluctuating weather.
