IMD Rainfall Alert, Cyclone Mandous: While the temperature is falling in the states of North India, heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in the southern states. Due to cyclonic storm Mandus, the Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for the southern states. According to the Meteorological Department, yesterday’s cyclonic storm ‘MANDUS’ persisted over the Southwest Gulf and it intensified into a cyclonic storm yesterday. However, this storm has again weakened this evening.
Heavy rain alert for two days
The Meteorological Department has predicted that it is very likely to move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry from today midnight to tomorrow morning. During this time, wind speed reaching 56-85 kmph is also very likely along and off south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Sriharikota around Malappuram. The Meteorological Department has said that today and tomorrow (10th and 11th December) heavy to very heavy rains will be seen in North Tamil Nadu, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and today on 10th December very heavy rains will also be observed in adjoining areas of North Tamil Nadu .
Meteorological department update on cold
At the same time, the Meteorological Department has told that no major change is going to be seen in the minimum temperature during the next 24 hours in West and Central India. This minimum temperature may increase by two to four degrees Celsius for the next four days. Apart from this, the minimum temperature in East India is expected to increase by two to four degrees Celsius for the next four to five days. In the rest of the region, there will be no change in the minimum temperature for the next four to five days. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will be seen in the morning between 10-13 December in Punjab. At the same time, there will be dense fog in Haryana between 10-12 December. Moderate fog is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for the next two days.
Heavy rain in many places due to cyclonic storm
As the cyclonic storm ‘Mandus’ approached the Tamil Nadu coast, light to moderate rains occurred in many parts of the state with heavy rains at some places. The cyclonic storm caused heavy rainfall in many areas of the state. Nungambakkam received a record seven cm of rain, while other areas received light to moderate rainfall. The IMD said Doppler weather radars are monitoring the cyclone, which intensified into a cyclonic storm on December 9 after being a severe cyclonic storm for less than 24 hours. It is now located approximately 260 km south-southeast of Chennai and 180 km east-northeast of Karaikal. Mandus is an Arabic word meaning treasure box and the name was chosen by the United Arab Emirates.
Five flights were canceled

During this, wind can blow at a maximum speed of 65-75 kmph to 85 kmph. At least five flights have been canceled from here today from 6 pm to midnight. Trains including suburban services were operated during this period and there was some disruption in bus services due to water-logging in many areas. Schools and colleges remained closed in many districts. In neighboring Puducherry, the regional administration declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions on Friday and Saturday after the IMD issued a cyclone warning.
School-college closed for two days
Puducherry Home and Education Minister A Namassivam said in a release that the government has taken note of the warning issued by the IMD that a strong cyclone would hit Puducherry and Karaikal regions under the influence of a storm in the Bay of Bengal. He said that all schools and colleges would remain closed for two days from Friday. The Department of Revenue and Disaster Management has deployed all departments related to relief operations to remain prepared and respond to any emergency. A storm warning signal flag number five has been hoisted at Puducherry port and fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea. Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy discussed the current situation with officials of the Revenue and Disaster Management Departments.
