IMD Yellow Alert: Delhi-NCR is in the grip of severe cold. A thick blanket of fog engulfed the capital on Tuesday morning. A sharp drop in the temperature of the city and cold winds have increased the chill. According to the Meteorological Department, a temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Delhi at 5.30 am today.

A sharp drop in the temperature of the city and cold winds have increased the chill. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Delhi at 5.30 am today. According to the department, the minimum temperature of the day is expected to be 8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 19 degrees Celsius. Along with this, dense fog will also prevail in the city.

Many trains late

Due to the cold wave in Delhi, many people are taking shelter in night shelters to avoid cold and icy winds. Due to falling mercury in the capital, people are sitting near bonfires to protect themselves from the cold. The effect of dense fog is visible on rail operations, many trains are running late. According to the information, about 25 trains including Purva Express, Vikramshila Express, RJPB Tejas Express, Patalkot Express, Mewar Express are running late from their scheduled time.

Temperature will fall from Tuesday

The IMD said that due to the return of cold northwesterly winds in the capital, the temperature will drop drastically from Tuesday. Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Skymet, said that from Tuesday the humidity in the area will decrease and the wind direction will become northwesterly. He said, ‘The winds will start getting stronger again and since they will come through the snow-clad mountains, where there has been fresh snowfall, it will affect the plains and the minimum temperature will fall sharply.’

Yellow alert of fog

IMD officials said that the minimum temperature of Delhi may drop to around 5 degrees Celsius by January 10. He said that a second western disturbance is expected to affect the region from January 11. Due to which light rain is expected once again on January 11 and 12. The IMD has forecast that the effect of the western disturbance will end by Tuesday, and strong northwesterly winds will blow in the region. The sky will remain clear. However, the department has issued a yellow alert regarding moderate to dense fog in the region till January 8.
