Significantly, before Amazon, Alipay introduced the Smile-to-Pay system in China. Under this system, an iPad-sized device is used. This allows users to pay face-to-face, although questions about privacy arise with such a biometric payment system. Experts believe that with such a system, the path of hackers will be easier.
Amazon One uses a person’s “unique palm signature” as an alternative to other biometric identifiers, such as fingerprint, iris or facial recognition.
“The two palms are not identical, so we explore all of these features with our vision technology and select the most unique identifiers on your palm to create a signature on your palm,” Amazon executive Dilip Kumar said in a blog post.
