Islamabad: After a day of political turmoil in Pakistan, bad news came for Imran on Sunday evening. Imran Khan was removed from the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan on Sunday after the President dissolved the National Assembly.

New circular issued
In the new circular issued by the Government of Pakistan, it has been claimed that Imran Khan is officially no longer the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Earlier, a minister of Pakistan, Fawad Chaudhry had said that Imran Khan will remain the caretaker PM for the time being under Article 224.

Removed from the post of PM with immediate effect
But a new circular was issued by the Government of Pakistan late on Sunday evening. In which it reads, ‘Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs after the dissolution of the Parliament of Pakistan by the President of Pakistan, dated 3rd April, 2022, Article 58(1) read with Article 48(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan According to Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi, the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan has been terminated with immediate effect.

Imran will not be able to take any decision
However, according to Pakistani news firm Geo News, under Article 224 of the Constitution of Pakistan, he can serve as prime minister for 15 days until a caretaker prime minister is appointed. He will not have the authority to make decisions that an elected head of government can do.

A notification from the Cabinet Division said, ‘Consequent to the dissolution of the National Assembly by the President of Pakistan, in accordance with Article 58(1) read with Article 58(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, through the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs SRO No. 487(1)/2022, dated April 3, 2022, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi is to vacate the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan with immediate effect.

No clarity on position
However, there is still no clarity on how a caretaker prime minister will be appointed as prime minister and the leader of the opposition, who made the appointment, is no longer in office after the dissolution of the National Assembly.
