In a first, the Maldives launches an innovative traveler loyalty programme

The Maldives has some exciting news for all those who have been planning to visit this tropical paradise. The country has recently announced its own traveler loyalty programme. With this, the Maldives will become the first country in the world to announce such a scheme, and which is expected to provide a big push to tourism post COVID-19.

Reportedly, the Maldives Border Miles programme will have three tiers— Abaarana (Gold), Antara (Silver) and Aida (Bronze), which will be available for travellers visiting the country. As per this programme, one can gain travel points and use them during their visit.




Maldives Immigration, an official government-run Twitter account, recently made an announcement related to this, stating: “Maldives Border Miles is a three-tiered loyalty program for tourists. Tourists will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay. Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions.”

Maldives’ economy relies heavily on tourism and hospitality industries, and was one of the first countries in Asia to reopen its borders to visitors. As per the records, visitors began slowly returning to the island in July.

An official from the Maldives’ National Tourism Board stated that it is not yet clear what kind of perks travelers will get in these three categories, and how they can accumulate the said points. However, as per the reports, the program will likely be initiated from December 2020.
