The Maldives has some exciting news for all those who have been planning to visit this tropical paradise. The country has recently announced its own traveler loyalty programme. With this, the Maldives will become the first country in the world to announce such a scheme, and which is expected to provide a big push to tourism post COVID-19.

Reportedly, the Maldives Border Miles programme will have three tiers— Abaarana (Gold), Antara (Silver) and Aida (Bronze), which will be available for travellers visiting the country. As per this programme, one can gain travel points and use them during their visit.

Maldives Immigration, an official government-run Twitter account, recently made an announcement related to this, stating: “Maldives Border Miles is a three-tiered loyalty program for tourists. Tourists will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay. Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions.”

Maldives’ economy relies heavily on tourism and hospitality industries, and was one of the first countries in Asia to reopen its borders to visitors. As per the records, visitors began slowly returning to the island in July.

Apart from the Maldives, if the traveller in you is keen to explore some other options, you can check out the Barbados, the Caribbean islands of Anguilla, and Aruba that are offering extended visas to people looking to change the setup of their work from home.
