Income Tax Notice – After filing income tax return, a notice is sent by the Income Tax Department to check the information given by the taxpayers. Which comes under section 143 (1). In such a situation, if you also get such a notice, then there is no need to panic. In this situation, it is necessary to know what to do after receiving the notice and how to respond to it. Let us understand in detail in the news below –

The Income Tax Department has started processing Income Tax Returns (ITR). Under this, the Income Tax Department is sending notices to taxpayers under Section 143 (1) of the Income Tax Act informing them. It states whether the ITR filed by you is correct or not. If it is not correct, then the reason for the same is also mentioned. Generally, this reason is related to giving incorrect information about income.

If you have also received this notice, do not panic. First read it to see if you have filled any wrong information in the ITR. If something like this comes out, then file the revised return by the last date. Generally, the last date for filing revised return is 31 December. However, the Income Tax Department has changed this last date many times.

The government has full accounts

Whenever we file a return (Income Tax Return File), we have to fill our income correctly in it. The account of all our income is available with the government in the form of Form 26AS and AIS. After filing ITR, the Income Tax Department investigates it. If any discrepancy is found related to the income, then it is informed through this notice by the Income Tax Department. It is also called Letter of Intimation or Intimation Notice.

This information is available under section 143 (1)

  • If a taxpayer is due to get a refund on his return, but the Income Tax Department has made some changes in it.
  • When a taxpayer has to pay additional tax or interest.
  • If there is no request for refund and the taxpayer’s return has already been processed.
  • If you have claimed wrong deductions to save tax, then it is written about it in this notice.

How to file revised return

If the notice reveals that there is some mistake in the ITR you filed, then you will have to correct that mistake. For this you will have to file a revised return. You can file a revised return as many times as you want. There is no additional charge or fee for this.

What to do if I don’t receive an intimation notice?

Every person who files ITR receives an intimation letter. If you do not receive the intimation letter within a month of filing ITR, inform the Income Tax Department about it via email. You can also lodge a complaint on the official website of the Income Tax Department.
