Income Tax Refund: If you are a taxpayer or a salaried class, then obviously you have filed or are about to file Income Tax Return (ITR). You also know that if any refund is made to you, then it is given to you by the Income Tax Department. But these days fraud or forgery is happening in the name of refund. Online thugs are cheating the taxpayers by adopting all the tricks. The Income Tax Department itself has alerted the people about this. In this case, you need to be very careful.

How is cheating

The Income Tax Department says that if you receive any suspicious email (e-mail) or SMS or any other communication, then get alerted immediately. Such links or emails or SMS may lead to fraud with you. The department says that it never asks for personal details of any taxpayer over phone for refund. Neither does SMS or email ask for any information.

Appeal not to do so

Income Tax Department has asked taxpayers to never share any of their bank details, credit/debit card details, password or OTP (one time password) with anyone. This is very personal data for you. The department has alerted that the correct URL of the Income Tax e-filing portal is- http://incometax.gov.in. Also beware of any similar URLs.
