Income Tax Refund: How can taxpayers check income tax refund status online, know step-by-step guide here

Income Tax Refund: Taxpayers who have filed ITR by the last date will now have to wait for their refund. In such a situation, if it is taking more than 4-5 weeks, then they can check the status of the refund online.

Income Tax Refund: Taxpayers who have filed income tax returns must be wondering when the refund will come to their account. On the other hand, taxpayers who have not filed returns yet can file delayed returns by paying a penalty till December 31, 2024.

Normally it takes four to five weeks for the Income Tax Department to issue a refund. But when the refund does not arrive in the taxpayer’s account, it is necessary to check the information received from the Income Tax Department.

But, in case there is any query from the Income Tax Department or the department rejects your return saying it is incomplete, keep checking any information received from the Income Tax Department.

If this has not happened to you and the refund amount has not been transferred to your account, then you must check the status of your refund.

To check income tax refund status, you may need the following things:

User ID and Password

You will need the user ID and password to log in to the system.

Aadhaar linked to PAN

Your PAN should be linked to Aadhaar.

File ITR claiming refund

Additionally, to be able to check the refund status, you need to file your ITR containing the refund claim.

To check the IT refund status, you can follow the following steps:

  • First, you need to visit the e-filing portal: eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/
  • Now you have to enter user ID and password.
  • If your PAN is not linked to your Aadhaar, you will see a pop-up message that your PAN has been deactivated because it is not linked to your Aadhaar. To link your PAN to Aadhaar, click on the ‘Link Now’ button, otherwise click on ‘Continue’.
  • You can now go to the e-File tab > Income Tax Returns > View Filed Returns.
  • Now you can check the refund status for the assessment year.
  • Now you can view the details. You can also check the life cycle of the ITR filed.
  • Refund has been issued
  • Refunds have been issued, but only partially.
  • The department has adjusted the full refund.
  • Tax refund has failed
