Technical glitches related to the new Income Tax Portal still remain. However, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday expressed hope that technical issues related to this portal will be fixed soon. The Finance Minister said that she did not want the website developed by IT giant Infosys to start like this, but she is now hopeful that these problems will be fixed at the earliest. Sitharaman said that Infosys had tried it before launching the portal on June 7, but despite this, users are still facing problems in using this portal.

He said, “According to me, this should not have happened. But we are constantly engaged in improving. This portal will soon start working as per our plan, it will be easy to use.

It is noteworthy that the new income tax portal www.incometax.gov.in was launched on June 7. This website is facing technical problems from day one.

According to Sitharaman, her ministry had used this portal as a trial before the launch of this portal with Infosys. However, despite all these trials, users are facing many problems from day one.

The Finance Ministry said that Infosys is working with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the ministry to completely revamp the portal.

“I have come to know from Chartered Accountants and Income Tax Professionals that the portal has definitely improved a lot now as compared to earlier,” he said.

Infosys was awarded the contract in 2019 to develop a new generation income tax return filing system. It aims to reduce the time taken for verification of income tax return from 63 days to one day.

The central government has paid Rs 164.5 crore to Infosys from January 2019 to June 2021.
