Kathmandu, Pratr. The Upper House of the Nepali Parliament on Sunday supported the proposal to discuss the constitutional amendment bill for approval of Nepal’s new controversial political map. A day earlier, the lower house of the Nepali parliament voted in support of the bill. Experts say that the communist government of Nepal is raising a border dispute with India for the first time at the instigation of China.

Earlier on Saturday, the ruling parties and opposition parties of the lower house of the Nepali parliament supported amending the constitution in unison to implement the new map of the country. In the new map, Lipuleh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura coming in the state of Uttarakhand of India have been described as part of Nepal.

India expressed strong opposition

This approach of Nepal to the Government of India is not acceptable at all. Of the 275 Nepali MPs in the lower house, all 258 MPs present in the House supported the amendment to the constitution. Now the same process will be adopted in the National Assembly, where the ruling Nepal Communist Party has a two-thirds majority.

Unanimous support

According to the Kathmandu Post report, the bill was introduced by Secretary Rajendra Fuyal in the Secretariat of the National Assembly at the first sitting of the Upper House on Sunday. In the second meeting of the National Assembly held later, Law Minister Shiva Maya Tumbhanghfe proposed this for discussion. This proposal was unanimously supported after discussion. The National Assembly will now grant MPs 72 hours to make any amendments to the provisions of the bill.

This is not going to be tolerated

In view of Nepal’s move, India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said on Saturday that the claims of raising the border in an artificial way are not based on historical facts and evidence. This is not going to be tolerated. It is noteworthy that Indo-Nepal relations have been strained since the Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on May 8 worked to connect the 80 km long strategic road to Lipuleh Pass with Dharachula in Uttarakhand.
