Men’s Asia Cup will be organized in India in 2025. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has given the hosting of the next edition to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Next year this tournament will be played in T20 format. India has got the hosting of Asia Cup after 34 years. The last time Asia Cup was organized in India was in 1990-91, which was the fourth edition. India then won the title by defeating Sri Lanka in Kolkata. At the same time, Asia Cup will be played on Bangladesh soil in 2027. Asia Cup with ODI format will be held in Bangladesh.
According to the tender document of ACC, 13 matches will be played in the upcoming edition of Men’s Asia Cup. Six teams (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) will fight for the title in the tournament. The sixth team will be selected through a qualifying event. However, information about when the Asia Cup will be played in India has not been revealed yet. ACC sources are saying that the tournament can be held in September. The document also mentions the Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup, which will be held in 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.
India is the current champion of the Asia Cup. India won the trophy last year by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. Last year, Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup, which was held in a hybrid model. Actually, India refused to play in Pakistan. India played all its matches in Sri Lanka while Pakistan played some matches at home. India has a very busy schedule till 2027. India will play a limited overs series with England in January-February next year. The ICC Champions Trophy is to be held in February-March, which is hosted by Pakistan.
It remains uncertain whether the Indian team will go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Indian players are likely to be busy in IPL 2025 from March to May. Team India will tour England in June and August and then play three ODIs and as many T20 matches in Bangladesh. In such a situation, it is also being speculated that if the Asia Cup does not happen in September, then it can be held in October after the Bangladesh series. India has to play a two-Test series against the West Indies after the Bangladesh series.
