New Delhi, Tech Desk. Made in China used to be dominated by smartphones at one time in India. But now the situation is changing and fast across the world, Made in India smartphones are reaching. According to a report by the India Cellular and Electronic Association (ICEA), by 2025, Made in India mobile exports could be worth $ 100 billion, while mobile parts exports are estimated to be around $ 40 billion.
According to the report, at one time China and Vietnam used to import mobiles to 198 countries. But now India has also joined this league. India has reached the third position with three billion dollars of mobile exports. The company will now seek second place in global manufacturing and mobile exports. ICEA chairman Pankaj Mohindro revealed this. In such a situation, it is expected that India will soon overtake China in terms of mobile exports.
India Today report said that till now India’s mobile exports were always less than imports. But in FY 2019-20, India exported 41.5 million phones, while importing only 5.6 million smartphones. In such a situation, for the first time in the year 2020, when India’s mobile phone exports exceeded its imports. This has been a record for the Indian mobile industry. According to ICEA data, as of 2014, there were only two manufacturing units in India, whose number increased to 268 in the year 2018. These trends in ACE show that India is rapidly moving in the direction of mobile manufacturing.
In the year 2017, the government brought in a phase manufacturing program to promote Bharat Nirman, under which local sourcing part was given incentive, while custom duty was imposed on import of electronic parts such as charger, microphone, camera. In such a situation, the import of fully made mobile phones became expensive. However, the import of mobile parts continued and then the assembling of mobile phones in India saw an increase. Consider the Counter Point Report, in the year 2018, due to local manufacturing in the mobile phone industry, India saved about 2.5 billion dollars of foreign exchange. But during this period, mobile parts were imported for $ 13.5 billion. In this context, the manufacturing of mobile parts at the local level in India will have to be increased.
