Indian Army is bringing a comprehensive promotion policy. The changes will come into effect from the first day of next year i.e. January 1, 2024. The new promotion policy finalizes a comprehensive review of the promotion policy for selection of military officers in the rank of Colonel and above. In a statement issued by the Army, it has been said that a new promotion policy has been prepared keeping in mind the constantly changing operational needs of the security forces.
Officers will get increased opportunities for promotion.
In the new policy of the army, both internal and external aspects of the army have been taken care of. Regarding the promotion policy, the Indian Army official said that it will help in better understanding the leadership requirements required to meet the current situation as well as emerging operational challenges and take promotion decisions accordingly. According to the statement of the Indian Army, the new comprehensive policy regarding promotion has been made to provide increased opportunities for promotion to the officers.
Senior military officers will also get benefits.
After the implementation of the new policy from January 1, 2024, Major General rank officers in the Indian Army will get further promotion opportunities. Officers serving above this rank will also get the benefit of the new promotion policy. The new policy will also help in fulfilling the aspirations of the senior leadership, the Army said.
Cadre-related expectations of soldiers will also be fulfilled.
Officers who have been approved as staff will get promotion only to the next rank of staff. Indian Army officials said that the new policy will help in strengthening the merit system. Under this, it will also help in fulfilling the expectations related to the cadre of officers. After the new promotion policy comes into effect, soldiers and officers serving in all units of the army will get equal opportunities and satisfaction.
There will be a uniform policy in all the selection boards.
It is noteworthy that at present the human resources of the Indian Army is managed under various policies and provisions. Different selection boards are working under this. When the selection board changed, the policies also changed. According to military officials, lack of uniformity in policy led to obstacles in taking decisions. After the implementation of the new policy, uniform policies can be implemented in the officers serving in the Indian Army and all the selection boards.

In another major decision on Wednesday, the Army said that with a view to better combat the challenges, the Army is developing military-grade 5G and 6G apps. The focus is on better use of emerging technologies. Army sources said, work is being done on advanced telecommunication technology to anticipate future war and meet the needs of the soldiers. Along with developing military-grade 5G and 6G telecommunication apps, military-grade software is also being developed under the ambitious project to increase overall efficiency.
Decision on testing in colleges of Madhya Pradesh
The purpose of the technologies the Army is working on is to increase intelligence and operational effectiveness. Efforts are also underway to develop tools equipped with artificial intelligence and analysis tools based on forecasting. Army sources said that the state-of-the-art software and telecommunication technology is being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Sources said that Madhya Pradesh’s Military College of Telecommunication Engineering has been developed as a hub for AI research and development. He said that innovations like Situational Awareness Module for Army or SAMA are the contribution of this centre. Imagery analysis innovations are also being worked on to study satellite images. Advanced pattern recognition software has been developed for this. Sources said that in view of the latest advancements in digital and cyber security areas, continuous initiatives are being taken with the aim of skilling the soldiers.
