Infosys has recently fired 240 freshers because they could not clear the company’s internal assessment. This information has come to light through an email sent on April 18, which was seen by Moneycontrol. This is the second such layoff. Earlier in February, more than 300 trainees were also fired on the basis of performance. All the freshers fired this time were placed on the posts of System Engineer (SE) and Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) and were hired after waiting for about two and a half years after Covid.
Freshers were from October 2024 batch
All these freshers were from the October 2024 batch and were part of the company’s ‘Generic Foundation Training Programme’. According to the report, about 730 trainees took part in their third and final assessment on 17 April 2025. Earlier, they were given more time for preparation, doubt-clearing sessions and mock tests. But even after three attempts, those who could not meet the set standards, the company decided to remove them.
The email sent by Infosys read, “You have not qualified in the ‘Generic Foundation Training Programme’ despite three attempts and additional support. Therefore, you will no longer be a part of this apprenticeship program.”
These offers are being given
However, the company has not left the fired trainees alone. They are being offered one month’s salary as well as professional outplacement services, and free training programs through partner companies like NIIT and UpGrad. Trainees will be helped to find new opportunities in the BPM industry or IT field. Trainees who want to make a career in the BPM sector will be given BPM training, while those interested in IT skills will get training in IT fundamentals.
Apart from this, the company has also provided travel allowance and temporary accommodation for trainees so that they can return from the Mysore training center to Bangalore or their home. These training programs have also been made available for the trainees who were fired in February.
These layoffs are happening at a time when Infosys is facing weak demand in major markets like the US and Europe. The company has projected revenue growth of just 0% to 3% for this financial year. Despite this, the company plans to hire 20,000 new freshers in FY26, while 15,000 freshers were given jobs last year. However, no official public statement has been made by the company in this matter so far.
