If a country allows visa free entry for the citizens of that country, then its citizens do not need to apply for a visa to go to that country. Passport or any other valid ID is sufficient to visit that country.
After Thailand, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, Indonesia is also considering giving visa free entry to Indian citizens. According to the statement issued by the Indonesian Tourism Ministry, this decision can be approved within a month. Indonesia has taken this decision to attract Indian tourists.
According to a report by news agency Reuters, Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno said on Thursday that he has received instructions from the government to consider providing visa free entry for tourists from some countries. Indonesia is considering granting visa-free entry to citizens of 20 countries including the US, China, Australia, India, South Korea, Germany, Britain and France to boost its tourism and economy.
According to official figures of Indonesia, more than 16 million foreign tourists came to Indonesia in 2019 before the Covid pandemic . At the same time, from January to October this year, about one crore foreign tourists came to Indonesia. If it is compared with the same period last year, the number of tourists has increased by about 124 percent.
This decision of Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country, also matters because recently Muslim-majority country Malaysia has also announced visa free entry for Chinese and Indian tourists. Earlier in September, Indonesia had announced Golden Visa to woo foreign individuals and corporate investors.
Visa free entry in Thailand also
Before Malaysia, its neighboring country Thailand had also taken a similar step to promote tourism in the country. Tourism has a major contribution in Thailand’s economy but due to Covid, its tourism sector has suffered a major blow. To revive the tourism sector, Thailand has started giving visa free entry to citizens of many countries including India and China.
Thailand had announced visa free entry in early November. Indian tourists can enter visa free for 30 days from 10 November 2023 to 10 May 2024.
