Free Visa Country For India: Free visas boost tourism and economic development for both countries. This policy allows a 30-day stay for tourism or business.

Indian Travellers: There is good news for Indian travellers planning to visit Malaysia. The country has extended the visa-free entry period for Indian citizens till December 31, 2026. With this, Malaysia is giving a significant boost to tourism and economic development for India. Apart from this, passengers are required to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). These initiatives are aimed at attracting more visitors, promoting economic progress and preparing for Visit Malaysia 2026.

This was announced by Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman on December 20, 2024. Malaysia is preparing for its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025. The extension mirrors a similar policy for Chinese nationals, which allows both Indian and Chinese citizens to stay visa-free in Malaysia for up to 30 days as part of the country’s visa liberalisation plan launched on December 1, 2023.

Datuk Awang Alik also said the extension reflects Malaysia’s ambition to become a major tourism hub in the region, which will warmly welcome international visitors and benefit local businesses linked to the tourism industry.

What is special about Malaysia’s visa waiver?

Eligibility: Indian and Chinese citizens can enter Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days.

Objective: The move is designed to attract more tourists, boost economic growth and strengthen Malaysia’s global tourism appeal.

Duration: The visa waiver is valid until December 31, 2026.

Security measures: The policy promotes tourism as well as ensures national security.

Visa waivers allow citizens of certain countries to enter Malaysia without obtaining a visa in advance. For example, Indian citizens can now travel to Malaysia for up to 30 days for tourism or business purposes without applying for a visa.

What is required for a free visa?

Passport validity: Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Purpose of travel: This visa exemption is primarily for tourism, but also includes short-term business trips.

Sufficient funds: You must show proof of sufficient financial means to support your stay.

Return/onward ticket: A confirmed return or onward ticket will be required.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card: A mandatory entry requirement will be required.

In addition to the above, all travellers, including those eligible for visa exemption, must fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before travel. This replaces the traditional immigration form, simplifying the entry process.

How to apply?

Visit the official website and fill in your details on the MDAC application portal. Which includes personal, travel and health information. The form must be filled at least 48 hours before travel.
