Indian Railway: According to the information received from the Southern Railway, an increase of about 80 percent has been recorded in the earnings of the Railways. In the financial year 2022-23, the passenger segment earned Rs 6,345 crore. This is the highest earning till date. In such a situation, it is being speculated that the Railways may resume the concession in fare for senior citizens.

Apart from this, there has also been a tremendous increase in the income from passenger fare and freight.
In this episode , according to the information received from the Southern Railway , an increase of about 80 percent has been registered in the earnings of the Railways. 6,345 crore in the passenger segment during the financial year 2022-23. This is the highest earning till date.
Indian Railways used to give 40 per cent concession in fare to men who are 60 years or above. Its minimum age for women is 58 years. That is, women above 58 years of age were given 50 percent exemption. This discount was given in Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto trains.
64 crore passengers traveled in 2022-23
Southern Railway earned a total of Rs 3,539.77 crore in the last financial year. Earlier in the financial year 2019-20, Southern Railway had the highest earning of Rs 5,225 crore. In the official release issued by Southern Railway, it has been said that in the financial year 2022-23, about 64 crore passengers have traveled by Southern Railway. This is 88.5 percent more than the financial year 2021-22.
Please tell that in the financial year 2021-22, 34 crore passengers had traveled. Southern Railway has made many achievements in freight movement. After the increasing earnings of the Railways, the demand for restoring the concession given to senior citizens has started rising again.
Senior citizens exempted from bandh during Corona period
In fact, during the Corona period, the Railways had stopped the concession in fare to senior citizens. Even after all the facilities have been regularized by the Railways, the fare concession given to senior citizens has not been resumed.
There is a continuous demand from the passengers to resume this facility. On this, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that 55 per cent discount is already being given to the passengers by the Railways. But now with the increase in revenue, it is expected that the concession in rent will start again.
