With the increase in the demand for electricity, the consumption of coal has increased. To meet this increased requirement of coal, the pressure of transportation on railways has increased. This is the reason why railways has to cancel daily mail, express and passenger trains for a few weeks. Railways have to do this to give way to coal-laden trains. According to reports, the Railways has promised to provide 415 freight trains daily for the transportation of coal. Each goods train has the capacity to carry around 3,500 tonnes of coal. According to officials, it may continue for at least two more months to increase the stock of coal in power plants. This will keep the stock of coal with the power plants. Also, the power crisis in July-August can also be avoided. Due to rain in July-August, coal mining work is less.

Coal is used in 70 percent of the country’s electricity

Coal is used to generate 70 percent of the electricity in the country. Railways has also run many long distance trains to increase the movement of coal. Senior officials are monitoring the movement of coal. If there is any problem on the routes of transporting coal, then the railways fix it first.

According to the data, in 2016-17, railways used to run 269 goods trains for carrying coal daily. The number of trains was increased in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
