An official told the news agency PTI that the Railways may announce special trains for the Konkan region on the occasion of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival. They can start from 22 August. This year, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 22 August.
Ganesh Chaturthi Special Train – Railway official said that the Central Railway had written a letter to the state governments asking for the response to run special trains for the Konkan region via Western and Konkan Railways.
State Disaster Management Unit director Abhay Yavalkar told the chief operating manager of the Central Railway that special trains could be scheduled for the 10-day festival starting from 22 August.
The number of trains will be determined based on their occupancy (how many seats they fill). Also, only confirmed train ticket will work as e-pass. Yavalkar also asked the railways to ensure that all COVID-19 norms, including social distancing and sanitization, are being followed by the state and central governments at trains and railway stations.
