Yes! There are many such rules regarding train tickets that you must know about. Failure to do so will not only result in you being fined but may also have to go to jail. Therefore, know about this railway rule related to every passenger, whose mistake can cost you heavily.
Travel on other’s ticket
While traveling by train, always keep in mind that traveling on someone else’s ticket is illegal. It often happens that someone else tries to travel in place of the person in whose name the ticket was booked.
The Ministry of Railways has also given information about this through its official Twitter handle. According to the tweet, traveling on another person’s ticket is a punishable offense. The ministry has said that the passenger should always travel on the ticket in his own name.
Different rules regarding family!
If you want to travel on a person’s ticket booked in the name of your family, then it is permissible to do so. But travel cannot be done directly on the same ticket. You have to follow the complete procedure before traveling.
Whether you have a counter ticket or an e-ticket, to change the name on both, you will have to go to the reservation counter and meet the Chief Reservation Officer or other officer present at the counter. For this it is also necessary to carry some documents. Carry the original ID proof and ticket of the person to whom the ticket is to be transferred.
Only the Chief Reservation Officer or other officers present there will be able to issue a ticket in your name. But if the woman’s name is on the ticket, then only another woman can travel in lieu of it. Such a rule would apply only in the case of men.
Discount for students too!
Apart from family members, railways also allows students of any educational institution to transfer tickets. In such a situation, an application has to be made 48 hours before the departure of the train in writing along with the necessary documents on the letterhead of the head of the educational institution.
