Indian Railways: Announcement of reducing the advance ticket booking period for trains from 120 days to 60 days, the new rule will come into effect from November 1, 2024.
Indian Railways: Indian Railways has decided to reduce the time for advance ticket booking in passenger trains from 120 days to 60 days. Railways said that the new time rule for ticket booking will come into effect from November 1, 2024. Sanjay Manocha, Director (Passenger Marketing), Railway Board, said that from November 1, 2024, the existing limit for advance reservation in trains will be reduced from 120 days to 60 days (excluding the date of travel) and booking will also be done as per this new rule.
What will happen to the tickets already booked
Sanjay Manocha said, “However, all bookings made till October 31, 2024 under the 120-day ARP (Advance Reservation Period) will remain intact. But bookings made beyond the 60-day ARP will be allowed to be cancelled. There will be no change in the case of some day-time express trains like Taj Express, Gomti Express etc., where a lower limit is already applicable for advance reservation. There will also be no change in the case of the 365-day limit for foreign tourists.”
Understand the new and old rules with an example
After the new rule, you will be able to book seats in trains only within a maximum limit of 2 months. For example, according to the old rule, if you have to book a ticket in a train running on May 1, 2025, then you could book the ticket 120 days in advance i.e. on January 1, 2025. But now after the new rule comes into force, if you want to book a ticket for a train running on May 1, 2025, then you will now be able to book the ticket only 60 days in advance i.e. on March 2.
