New Delhi: Indian Railways Latest News: There is important news for those traveling by train. Now you will not get a special facility available during the journey. The Government of India has been providing Wi-Fi in trains and railway stations for the convenience of passengers for the last few years. But, after providing Wi-Fi connectivity at all railway stations of the country, the government has dropped it.

In the year 2019, former Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had announced that the Center is planning to provide Wi-Fi inside trains in four and a half years. But there were many challenges in it, due to which it has now been removed from the railway project.

Passengers will not get Wi-Fi service
Now this project has been removed by Indian Railways. According to a PTI report, the Railways has shelved the project of providing internet connection in trains as the cost was not cost-effective. The government confirmed this in Parliament. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, said that under the pilot project, the government provided Wi-Fi internet facility through satellite communication technology in the Howrah Rajdhani Express train.

During the pilot project, it was observed that technology intensive capital coupled with recurring costs are required, such as bandwidth charges, which do not make the project cost-effective. Also, the internet bandwidth provided to the passengers in the train was insufficient. The Railway Minister said that as of now there is no suitable, cost-effective technology for Wi-Fi internet services in trains.

RailTel network facility
Let us tell you that at present Indian Railways is providing Wi-Fi internet facility at more than 6,000 railway stations. This service is provided by RailTel Network under a PSU operated under the Ministry of Railways. It is worth noting that RailTel provides these Wi-Fi services under RailWire, which is its broadband distribution model. Earlier, Google’s station program started at Mumbai Central Railway Station in 2016 and added its 400th station in Dibrugarh, Assam in 2018.
