Indian Railways: Big news! Now Indian Railways will also have reserved seats for women like metro train, know full details

Indian Railways News: Separate seats are reserved for women in bus and metro trains. In Delhi Metro train, apart from having reserved women’s seat in each coach, a separate coach is also reserved. EMU and DMU trains also have separate coaches for women. Now special berths for female passengers in trains have been made by Indian Railways for women passengers in long distance trains.


Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that in order to ensure comfortable travel of women passengers in long distance trains, Indian Railways has started several facilities including allotment of special berths.

Six berths in sleeper class of mail and express trains

The Union Minister said that the reservation quota of six berths in sleeper class in long distance mail and express trains and the third of fully air-conditioned express trains including Garib Rath, Rajdhani, Duronto. The reservation quota of six berths in AC coaches (3AC class) has been fixed for female passengers.


Apart from these, six to seven lower berths in each sleeper coach, four to five lower berths in air-conditioned 3 tier (3AC) coach and three to four lower berths in air conditioned 2 tier (2AC) coach for senior citizens. (senior citizens), women passengers of 45 years and above and pregnant women. This reservation will be based on the number of coaches of that class in the train.

Safety of women passengers

The Railway Minister said that special arrangements have also been made for the safety of women passengers in trains. He informed that ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are state subjects under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India, however, Railway Protection Force (RPF) GRP and District Police will provide better security to the passengers.

Apart from all these facilities, some more steps are also being taken by the Railways in coordination with GRP for the safety of other passengers including women passengers on trains and stations.

A pan-India initiative “Meri Saheli” was launched by the Railway Protection Force on October 17 last year with the aim of providing security to women passengers traveling by trains throughout their journey.
